A Film & Video project in Jerusalem, Israel by Julie Land

The Summer Media Academy has been held 3 times in East Jerusalem//West Bank. The workshops have produced a number of short Palestinian Films (this is the goal of each session: to make a short film) and taught many students the art of making films, documentaries and video art/animation.

The project creator is looking to raise funds to hold the 4th Summer Media Academy – video and film workshops for young Palestinians. For more information or to pledge donations visit the project home page on KickStarter.

‘I paint what I feel. I have nothing to do with politics’

Despite the privations of the past five years – and, in some cases, the disapproval of Hamas – Gaza’s musicians and artists have continued to produce impressive works, often related to the conditions in which they live.

Here, painter Maha al-Daya discusses the effect of the blockade on her work.

There are colourful seascapes, vibrant depictions of the beach and fishing boats, and an olive tree growing into the ground rather than towards the sky
